Dec 30/31 - Debre Zeit

Our last day in Ethiopia was spent at the volcanic lakes of Debre Zeit outside Addis Ababa.  I think we needed a bit of chill time just to make sense of the past 9 days and let it all sink in and Debre Zeit is the perfect place for that.  On New Year's eve, Eskinder took us to a cultural restaurant in Addis where we were treated to some of the most energetic body-shaking (the Ethiopians call it shoulder dancing) we've ever seen.  I don't know how the dancers didn't dislocate everything from the waist up.  Then we said goodbye to Sam for seven months and headed for the airport to welcome in 2012 in the Departures Lounge on our own, since the Ethiopian New Year is in September! 

And that was Ethiopia.
